Rowing, which has long been recognized by serious athletes as one of the most effective forms of full-body exercise (hello Harvard rowing team), is the hottest new workout to hit the boutique fitness scene. Studios such as Row House in New York City are leading the pack (or should we say crew), bringing the beloved water sport indoors and encouraging people of all fitness levels to get on board. Here’s a list of five reasons you should start indoor rowing ASAP according to Spoon University.
The past few months have had our ears buzzing. Others have been talking about us here at Row House. See what they have been saying.

Relatively new to rowing, they are both constantly challenging and pushing themselves to their limits; taking part in our half-marathon, rowing with us at least two-times a week, and seeing some amazing results. Read their interview here and when you see them around the studio be sure to follow their stroke.

We are offering 2 challenges to kick off your New Year the fit way!

If you complete 20 classes in 30 days you can celebrate that achievement with a private class...fill it with your friends and colleagues, or choose to do a one-on-one with your favorite coach! AND, that hoodie.
The Half-Marathon was an amazing turnout with overwhelming support. We had 30 people in one room, loud music, roaring ergs, and so much enthusiasm all rowing for to the same goal of 21,097 meters. We set the timer on the clock and every single person reached their goal in 90 minutes or less. With the support of the person next to you and coaches running around offering advice and tips, everybody was able to row an amazing half-marathon.
We've added themed rows to our rowing catalog, whether you've been to Hamilton live or to our themed class with Hamilton songs, you will definitely enjoy every sweating minute of it. New York's 'Racked' recently reviewed our Hamilton Row, click here to see what they had to say and why we are trying to keep up with demand! Keep an eye on our schedule because the tickets to our Hamilton Row sell out fast! Schedule here if you want front row tickets to our show!

a closer look
This past week, Mary Seem beat the record for total meters rowed over 24 consecutive hours for U.S. Women. She also beat the world record in her age group (20-29).
Row House was honored to host Mary for her record breaking challenge, offering 8 classes during this time for the opportunity to row alongside Mary.
Mary began her attempt to break the record on Sunday, October 11th at 2:01PM, finishing 24 hours and 251,288 meters later. She passed the record for her age bracket just after 10AM and passed the U.S. Women’s record in her final hour. In addition to the personal satisfaction of such an achievement, Mary raised money for charities close to her heart.
If you’re interested in donating, visit Mary's website for more information.
How far did Mary row? Approximately 156 miles.
Concept2 (the company who makes the rowing machines we have in our studios) is responsible for all record keeping for indoor rowing. Mary’s accomplishments haven’t been updated yet, but you can find current records here: 24-Hour Row Records.
This feat was definitely not an easy one. Mary shares more on her blog about her training leading up to the event, but we wanted to share one of her mantra’s to help her mentally through some of her longer rows…
“the time will always be counting down”
Mary is an inspiration to us, both physically and mentally. Yes, this is definitely a good mentality if you’re struggling through a tough workout, but we also think it is a great daily reminder. Mary made her time count, will you?
Mary was joined by friends and family to support her through the challenge
Mary stayed strong through the very last meter
Per Concept2 requirements, the individual must row within each of the 24 hours. A log must be kept and signed by a witness to verify performance.
Even after 24 hours, it was all smiles when time was up!
Row House and Skin Spa are partnering to help make you the healthiest you. Take advantage of special discounts and offers.
