They've been training for months and now the time has finally come and gone: the Row House C.R.A.S.H. B's team is headed to Boston February 28th to compete.  Each completed a  2,000 meter sprint in their respective divisions. The team included Coaches Scott, Caley, Chris and Eric V.F. and our devoted crew Michael Ash, Geneva Khooshabi, and Christopher Ryan.  Check out this highlight reel to see how our crew did.

We were honored to welcome 30 intense rowers to our Valentines Day Half-Marathon.  Our athletes came, rowed, conquered 21,097 meters in approximately 90 minutes straight. Incredible endurance!

Half-Marathon

The Half-Marathon was an amazing turnout with overwhelming support.  We had 30 people in one room, loud music, roaring ergs, and so much enthusiasm all rowing for to the same goal of 21,097 meters.  We set the timer on the clock and every single person reached their goal in 90 minutes or less. With the support of the person next to you and coaches running around offering advice and tips, everybody was able to row an amazing half-marathon.

Row House University

We’re proud to announce that seven coaches have graduated from Row House University. These are our first official graduates since implementing the program in August. Coach Caley is heading up this new initiative as our Head of Fitness and Programming.

You may have noticed a new class, RH Community Class, on our Columbus Circle schedule. We’re offering these classes free of charge and encourage your help to make our new coaches the best they can be! The Community Class is Row House University’s final test in order to transition to an official coach. 

 

We’d like to extend congratulations to new coaches! Talk about a perfect fit, all four of them have a background in athletics or are currently athletes. We’re so excited this group of unique and passionate individuals are joining the Row House team.

Record Breaker, Record Maker

This past week, Mary Seem beat the record for total meters rowed over 24 consecutive hours for U.S. Women. She also beat the world record in her age group (20-29). 

Row House was honored to host Mary for her record breaking challenge, offering 8 classes during this time for the opportunity to row alongside Mary. 

Mary began her attempt to break the record on Sunday, October 11th at 2:01PM, finishing 24 hours and 251,288 meters later. She passed the record for her age bracket just after 10AM and passed the U.S. Women’s record in her final hour. In addition to the personal satisfaction of such an achievement, Mary raised money for charities close to her heart.

Concept2 (the company who makes the rowing machines we have in our studios) is responsible for all record keeping for indoor rowing. Mary’s accomplishments haven’t been updated yet, but you can find current records here: 24-Hour Row Records.

This feat was definitely not an easy one. Mary shares more on her blog about her training leading up to the event, but we wanted to share one of her mantra’s to help her mentally through some of her longer rows…

“the time will always be counting down”

Mary is an inspiration to us, both physically and mentally. Yes, this is definitely a good mentality if you’re struggling through a tough workout, but we also think it is a great daily reminder. Mary made her time count, will you?
