We are gushing enthusiasm about Rowing at Gurney's Montauk all summer long.  Gurney's is an amazing Oceanfront Resort in Montauk - and we are rowing overlooking the Atlantic! This spring, I added Row House to my fitness routine to prepare for summer.  Usually, when I spin my heart races and my quads burn; but then I also hit the weights or do other resistance work, believing separate classes are needed for a complete workout.  But I was mistaken.  Heed the words of Eric Von Frohlich, the man behind Row House: "Don't miss the boat." 

Eric Von Frohlich co-owner and co-founder of Row House NYC starts off by schooling us in proper form and technique. He gives detailed no BS correctional cues, which your lower back will appreciate. I quickly realize how much endurance this sport requires, and I love the challenge. Then just when you think you’re out of steam, and you’re one stroke away from a Charlie horse he tells us to close our eyes, and imagine our boat lifting up out of the water. The air from the fan suddenly turned into an ocean breeze, the room full of people became a boatful of unstoppable forces, and you are the master of the moment….

Well, when that happens (and it will), rowing is pretty awesome. Row House NYC will lead you on a journey, and help you find that moment. 

Don’t miss the boat! The rowing machine is one of the best calorie-burning pieces of cardio equipment you’re not using. The classes are fun, and you will see results.

A highly effective alternative or a complement to your Spinning, Bootcamps, and CrossFit workouts.

A low-impact, efficient, 50-minute, full-body small group workout that combines rowing circuits on the Concept 2 Indoor Rower, interspersed with a variety of intervals on the floor, all set to high-energy music.

Suitable for any level, you can expect an energetic, fast-paced, and challenging class in a safe and inspiring environment.

HOW

Three distinct classes offer variety and total fitness, making for the perfect weekly routine to help you get leaner and stronger:

Row House® Full Body—train all the major muscle groups from upper to lower body

Row House® Core— hone in on your core perfecting your posture, strength, and stability

Row House® Endurance—build up your time on the erg with lots more erg based drills. Perfect for experienced rowers.

DIRECTIONS

Row House®  is easy to access by foot, car, bike, or public transportation, proudly located on the ground floor of EVF Columbus Circle.

We are two blocks due west from Columbus Circle, easily reachable by A, C, B, D, 1 trains. 

We also have two CitiBike stops on our block- one on our corner at 59th and 11th and the other at 59th and 10th.

Hertz garage is behind our building. Enter on 60th between 10th and 11th.

There is a bike rack across the street at John Jay College.

Single Class: $40 ($20 first time)

5-Classes: $180 ($36 per)

10-Classes: $350 ($35 per)

25-Classes: $750 ($30 per)

3-time/wk membership: $269 ($22 per)

DIRECTIONS

Row House Beach is located at Gurney's Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa. Classes are held outdoors, overlooking the Ocean.  Valet parking is available for Free. 

By Car
—Take I-495 (Long Island Expressway) toward Eastern Long Island.
—Take EXIT 70, turn right at the Mobile Station onto CR-111.
—Stay straight to merge onto RT-27 E to Montauk.
—At Southampton, you will begin to pass through a number of "Hampton" villages.
—In Southampton (follow RT-27) turn left onto RT-27/Montauk Hwy. Continue to follow RT-27.
—In East Hampton (follow RT-27) turn left onto Main St/RT-27. Continue to follow RT-27.
—Leaving Amagansett, you will enter upon a straight stretch of road called the Napeague Highway (still Route 27). About 5 miles past Amagansett there is a fork in the road. Be sure to bare right onto Old Montauk Highway. Remember we are on the ocean, and the ocean is on the right! Gurney's Inn is two miles east of the fork.

If you are using a GPS device to assist with directions to Gurney’s Inn, be aware that there are two 290 Old Montauk Hwy locations in Montauk. We are the location before (west of) the hamlet of Montauk, not after it. Enter “Gurney’s Inn” in the GPS, not the address.

By LIRR
Daily round trip schedules operate between New York and Montauk, running time is 3 1/2 hours; less from Brooklyn and Jamaica.  Grab a cab from the LIRR Montauk Station to Gurney's.

By Jitney
The Hampton Jitney can get you out to Montauk from Manhattan or Brooklyn in approximately 3 hours.  Look into spending the day at Gurney's Montauk - and you can have a day full of fitness, beach, food, and fun. Grab a cab from the Jitney Montauk Stop to Gurney's.
